WBN / Engineering worksheets
Engineering worksheets
Build a working record of endpoints, fiber paths, coherent conditions or deployment requirements. Keep the source, the observation and the open question together.
Entries stay in this browser tab; nothing is submitted to WBN. Download a copy to keep your record after the tab closes.
Endpoint requirements record
Record both hosts, exact module identities, port modes and the requirements that must agree across a link.
Fiber-path record
Record the physical path, connector positions, polarity, losses and measured continuity between endpoints.
Coherent planning inputs
Keep exact operating modes, line-system conditions and optical measurements together before evaluating a coherent route.
Deployment supply brief
Describe phased demand, specifications, qualification evidence and delivery requirements without inventing commitments.

01 Connection identity
Record the actual installed hardware and software. A form factor or optical-standard name alone does not establish compatibility.
Project / link ID / date / engineer
A: device, port and software release
Z: device, port and software release
A: module marking, revision and serial
Z: module marking, revision and serial
02 Electrical and optical requirements
Keep electrical host FEC separate from optical line FEC. Use the exact supported application and lane mapping at each endpoint.
Protocol and intended payload rate
A and Z host application / electrical lane rate and count
A and Z host FEC setting and source
Optical interface / lane mapping / line FEC
Connector, fiber count, media and reach requirement
Host power class, cooling and temperature requirements
03 Evidence and unresolved conditions
No threshold or compatibility result is implied by completing this record.
Applicable documents: title, revision, page and date
Validated host / module combination and test evidence
Peer interoperability conditions
Open questions, owner and next check
Fiber-path record
Record the physical path, connector positions, polarity, losses and measured continuity between endpoints.

01 Path and construction
Include every patch, trunk, cassette and adapter. Connector keying, gender and polish are independent attributes.
Project / path ID / route / date
A and Z port and connector identity
Media: SMF or MMF type / installed length
Assembly segments: patch, trunk, breakout, cassette
Connector type, polish, pinning / gender and key orientation
Jacket / environment / applicable installation requirement
02 Position map and continuity
Record the viewing convention used for every connector. A polarity label cannot replace the end-to-end position map.
A position → Z position mapping / drawing reference
Transmit → receive mapping for each active optical lane
Continuity method / test equipment / calibration date
Inspection and cleaning record for all mating interfaces
Measured loss, wavelength and reference method by strand
Unused fibers / reserved positions / breakout leg lengths
03 Acceptance evidence
Compare measured values to the documented loss budget and required mapping; do not substitute nominal distance for loss measurements.
Applicable budget and source revision
Failed / unresolved positions and next checks
As-built drawing, test report and record owner
Coherent planning inputs
Keep exact operating modes, line-system conditions and optical measurements together before evaluating a coherent route.

01 Endpoint and mode identity
A shared rate or media code does not prove equivalent modes. Record the exact model, revision and application at both ends.
Route ID / date / endpoint identities
A and Z module / firmware / source document revision
Host framing, multiplexing and electrical lane map
Line format, payload, modulation, baud rate and FEC
Channel frequency / grid / spacing / filter passband
02 Line system and optical conditions
Record OSNR reference bandwidth, measurement point and receive power together. Receiver sensitivity, overload, monitor range and absolute maximum ratings are separate quantities.
Span losses / amplifier or ROADM stages / filter path
Transmit power setting and allowed range
Receive signal power and total power, per endpoint
Measured OSNR, reference bandwidth, method and location
Chromatic dispersion / PMD / mode compensation range
Amplifier gain, noise, loading and launch constraints
03 Power, thermal and qualification record
Power can depend on host mapping, line mode and dispersion range. Missing test conditions remain unresolved.
Host power budget and documented mode-specific draw
Module case temperature, cold start and cooling conditions
Pre/post-FEC error record with time interval and units
Interoperability / soak evidence and unresolved limits
Deployment supply brief
Describe phased demand, specifications, qualification evidence and delivery requirements without inventing commitments.

01 Demand and schedule
Separate physical modules, links and cable assemblies. Quantities here are planning inputs, not a supplier commitment.
Program / site / planning date / owner
Rack, pod and site phases with required dates
Physical transceiver quantities by model and phase
Cable assembly quantities by family and phase
Spares / attrition assumptions and demand uncertainty
02 Technical and fulfillment requirements
Use a controlled common specification for each WBN model. Record approved alternatives explicitly.
Required models / specification revisions / approved alternatives
Qualification plan / host matrix / acceptance evidence
Cable construction, labeling, drawing and packaging needs
Delivery destinations / receiving windows / staging requirements
Lot traceability and documentation required at receipt
03 Review and open conditions
Commercial terms, warranty and shipment commitments require their applicable documented agreement.
Lead-time assumption, source and last verified date
Allocation / schedule dependencies / change control
Applicable warranty or agreement reference
Unresolved inputs, decision owner and next review date
