WBN / Self-service support

Self-service support

Start with the observed condition. Record both endpoints, the actual operating mode and the path between them.

Keep the evidence together.

Answers and notes are kept in this tab’s browser session. Nothing is submitted to WBN. Export a record before closing the tab; clear removes this worksheet from this session.

These checks organize observations and next steps. “Recorded” means evidence was entered; it does not establish compatibility, identify a failed component or qualify the link.

All troubleshooting topics
  • Identify a product

Start with the marking and the document that belongs to it. Is the full model marking available? Does the document name that exact model?

  • Module recognition

Separate module presence, management communication and host acceptance. Does the host report physical presence? Can the host read the module identity and state? Does the host support this module and power class?

  • Separate product identity, host configuration and the installed path. Are both endpoint identities known? Have both host modes been checked? Has the connection path been checked?

  • Host mode and FEC

Keep host electrical requirements separate from the optical line mode. Is the intended application supported at both ends? Are host FEC settings supported for each endpoint? Does the port mapping agree with the connection?

  • Optical measurements

Interpret each measurement with its lane, unit, time and applicable test conditions. Are per-lane measurements and conditions recorded? Do comparisons use the applicable operating limits? Is the physical path evidence available?

  • Errors or intermittent link

Capture the event and its conditions before changing the connection. Are measurements tied to the fault time? Are values compared with applicable limits? Has the installed path been inspected?

  • Check a fiber path

Follow the endpoint positions through every connection. Is the connector viewing convention defined? Is the complete A-to-Z map known? Has the installed channel been tested?

  • Coherent line conditions

Evaluate a coherent route with the exact modes, optical conditions and line system attached. Are the exact host and line modes recorded at both ends? Are frequency, spacing and line-system conditions known? Do OSNR and receive-power readings include their conditions? Are dispersion, power and thermal requirements documented?
